What a fun time i-Trek volunteers had at the African American Festival over the weekend of June 21st & 22nd, 2014 in Baltimore, MD! From our exhibition space in the STEM Nation tent, we had four different science experiments for the attendees to try out as a part of our inter-active play designed to be fun and educational. Although we originally intended these experiments to appeal to and stimulate the curiosity of our youth in science, technology, engineering and math, we were pleasantly surprised to see that many adults were young at heart as you can see from these pictures and others posted on Facebook.
Thanks to a generous grant we received from MIT, i-Trek was able to purchase various science kits that were used for sessions held in one of Boston’s charter schools. In effort to bring hands-on activities vital to keeping students interested in STEM, students were taught under the instruction of our MIT student volunteers in ways that often cannot be provided by the standard instruction. The sessions proved such a success that we have been asked to bring this program to other schools. I-Trek hopes to continue these activities in the future. Please check back for more of i-Trek in the schools.
